Sever set back for Ahmadi Nezhad

"The mountain gave birth to a mouse", this is the verdict most independent Iranian analysts and commentators gave to the much talked about meeting the embattled President Mahmoud Ahmadi Nezhad organized in the Azadi stadium on 18 April 2013.           Expected to bring something around 100.000 of his supporters, the place was filled with less than 60.000 people, according to eyewitnesses present at the venue. It was also expected that Mr. Ahmadi Nezhad would profit from the occasion to officially announce the candidacy of Mr. Esfandia Rahim Masha'i, his closest friend, advisor and colleague, who is also the father in law of his daughter, to the upcoming presidential elections set for 14 June 2013, but contrary to all expectations, not only he said nothing on the subject, but very strangely, Mr. Rahim Masha’i was absent from the scene.

“The only happy note of the meeting was the unseen freedom with which young girls and boys, most of them dressed very westernly, meaning almost not Islamic, were sitting next to each other, chanting and clapping hands, while groups of young dancers of both sexes were performing modern and old Iranian dances. The rest was a flop, from the number of the people Ahmadi Nezhad’s team had been able to mobilize to his speech, which contained nothing new expect that he did not mentioned the name of Mr. Rahim Masha’i, who was supposed to be the real hero of the show”, noted one young man, not hiding his anger.
But considering the strong opposition of the Judiciary, the military, the police, the security forces and some leading clerics to the meeting, the reason behind the absence of Rahim Masha’i and the announce of his candidacy by the President might be the result of an accord passed secretly between him and Khameneh’i to let the meeting be held on time”, according to other observers.
In fact, from an obedient President executing every wishes of his master, Ali Khameneh’i, who had ordered all the institutions in charge of elections, like the Interior Ministry and the Council of the Guardian of the Constitution as well as the powerful Revolutionary Guards to bring out from the ballot boxes the name of Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadi Nezhad, the Mayor of Tehran, as the winner.
But with the approach of the end of his mandate next June, Mr. Ahmadi Nezhad, “the beloved son” who’s views are more close to me than those of Mr. (Ali Akbar) Hashemi Rafsanjani (the former president who, immediately after the death of Rouhollah Khomeini, the real leader of the Islamic revolution of 1979 and the founder of the Islamic Republic, had orchestrated the election of Ali Khameneh’i as the new Guide of the revolution and the regime), had turned to a real opponent of his boss, not only challenging openly his “divine” powers, but also threatening that if the candidacy of Mr. Rahim Masha’i was rejected, as it is expected to be by the Council of the Guardians, which is controlled by Mr. Khammeneh’i and is in  charge of accepting or rejecting the legitimacy of every candidate to any elections in the Islamic Republic because of the open hate of the Guide for Mr. Rahim Masha’i, he would unleash hundreds of thousands of his supporters in the streets of the Capital and other main cities.
Other major ‘winning card” at the hands of Mr. Ahmadi Nezhad is the “hundreds and hundreds” of secret documents he and his friend, Rahim Masha’i, have obtained from secret files of the Interior and Intelligence ministries concerning huge corruption cases involving the very person of the Leader, his family, his close entourage, leading clerics, high ranking Revolutionary Guards officers and particularly Mojtaba, his second son considered as the most powerful man after his father who had organized the savage, brutal crushing of the 2009 popular demonstrations of millions of people protesting against the overnight changing of the 25 millions of votes in favor of Mr. Mir Hosseyne Moussavi, the first Prime minister of the regime against the 14 millions for Mr. Ahmadi Nezhad.
According to many Iranian political observers, those are those “dangerous files” that that keeps Khameneh’i, the man known for his egoism, narcissism and hate, quiet.
“Without these poisonous documents against Khameneh’i, Ahmadi Nezhad knows that not being among the inner circles of the system like former president Hashemi Rafsanjani or Mohammad Khatami, he would loose his head or finish in Evin prison for the rest of his life. His plan for survival is simple: Apply the Poutine-Medveedev process with Rahim Masha’i to keep himself and his band in power for several more years”, comments Dr. Kourosh Erfani, the new Director-Manager of the popular Farsi-language “Andished TV” based in Los Angeles.
“Although Ahmadi Nezhad proved that he can bring many people out, but nonetheless, the meeting was sour, it’s negative result was very good news for his enemies. In fact, they realized that contrary to what they had feared, he has not the capability of mobilizing hundreds and hundreds of thousands people, as he had pledged, that his guns have no powder and therefor they can destroy him, starting by rejecting the candidacy of Rahm Masha’i, in case he enters the race”, said Dr. Bizhan Eftekhari, a leading Iranian economist based in Los Angeles and co-founder of the Auto-Emancipators Organization with Dr. Erfani.
And in fact, the first salvo was fired two days ago by Mr. Qolamalai Haddad Adel, the father of Mojtaba’s wife, a former Speaker of the Majles and one of the “2+1 Coalition” made of him, Dr. Ali Akbar Velayati, a former Foreign minister and the Leader’s major advisor for international affairs as well as General Mohammad Reza Qalibaf, a Norht Korea trained pilot who is currently Mayor of Teheran. “The government of Ahmadi Nezhad has done things which have made mad all of us”, he said, addressing a crowd of symathisers.

“All these events would benefit Mr. Hassan Rohani, the outsider who has become the very possible winner of the nextelections. In case he become president, as it seems he should be able to get the final approval of Khameneh’i and to solve the thorny problem of Iranian nuclear program with the international community”, said Mr. Eftekhari.
